Why Are Older People So Fucking Rude?

For a country that obsesses so much about politeness and respect, older Nigerians are rude as fuck.

Why the hell do these individuals think that their age gives them some sort of right to say whatever they like to someone younger no matter how offensive and ridiculous it might be?

Worst of all, when that younger person has finally had enough and decides to say the exact same words back to the older person that they originally said to the younger person, the older person is so shocked and upset.

Why the fuck would you be surprised that someone said something bad back to you when you were the one that started saying shit in the first place?

I’m sorry but if you a Nigerian and above the age of thirty, fucking take note.

Say to others as you’d like them to say to you.

Don’t be a fucking asshole just because you are older and then act fucking surprised when the person you’ve been treating in an abusive manner starts giving you a taste of your own medicine.

    AMEN!!!
Older and male especially. People stay taking the piss, then bystanders will be quick to remind you that you are a ‘woman’ or a ‘small girl’. The “small girl” one is the part that kills me. Like they expect to get an automatic stupid pass for being older.

Oh my goodness I’ve heard that small girl comment many times to and it is so annoying and irritating. I feel like slapping the person who said it. And older men are HUGE culprits of doing this.

Ah-ahn!!. Sugabelly has vexed finish oh. lol. But you’re so correct, and it simply drives me crazy that older Nigerians expect but do not wish to give back respect. To use your words “fuck” them all.

Well, not only Nigerians. Maybe they have never learned that the way you say something can be more important than what you have to say.

Anyway, be sure, one day I’ll be the coolest greybeard in town 😉

I have experienced/endured this so many times that I have just decided to let it go and let it not bother me anymore.

Nigerians have a fucking bad case of ageism. It’s quite annoying when as a younger person, yet an adult over 21 you have to basically be on your guard all the time so as not to offend/say something deemed “wrong” to an older person, even when the older person refuses to respect him/herself.

That whole “small girl” thing irritates the shit out of me. I endured this for years, in an office environment, among women, especially. They think that as a young woman if you’re not yet married with children, you’re basically still a child.

    Ugh.

Nigerians especially carry the whole “over 30” thing on their heads, and are quick to bring age into EVERYTHING.

It can’t be that because when Nigerians are young they are taught constantly to be respectful to other people so these older Nigerians are DELIBERATELY being rude.

Ageism is definitely right. Adults are not treated like adults unless they are married, have children and are over thirty. Working in an office in Nigeria where the age based ranking system is so obvious is a test of immense patience.

Some old people can be really nice and caring. For others, they are on their own.

I used to stress about this too, but as my husband always says ‘Soon, they’ll all be dead’. (Doesn’t stop me being rude right back though!)

    Don’t sweat it.

    They soon will.

I hate this so much. My dad never apologize when he does something wrong. My mom does once in ten blue moons.

I am 15, me and my dad tend to fight a lot because of this attitude. Yeah, you’re the head of the house, so what.

My uncle that lives with us is so annoying too. I just wish he would get married and just leave. I mean he is almost 30.
