Ever since the first season of American Idol in 2002, I’ve been hooked on the Idol series. Sometimes for the amazing singers, and more often than not for the terribly hilarious auditions.
I caught a few episodes of the very first Nigerian Idol but lost interest as I didn’t think the singers were that great. (Sorry Timi Dakolo ), then I started watching the current season of American Idol and on a whim decided to give its Nigerian cousin another chance.
The current season is pretty good. I caught the tail end of the show last night. I’m rooting for Debbie Rise (maybe because she’s a woman?) even though I hate her name and she could do with a bit more voice coaching.

The jury is still out for me on the judges. Femi Kuti yes, but the other two… I loved Yinka Davies’ music when I was little but I’m still not convinced she has the industry chops to be a judge on a show like Idol.

I think the season has been going on fine, but I ve only been enjoying myself. Let the best singer win!
Sometimes I feel like it isn’t always the best singer who wins but the most commercially viable singer.
Maybe I will watch this season then….the last time I watched was the West African Idol ( Timi Dakolo won) ..the audio output has been a turn off for me since then
